Today is ! The day was set aside by U.S. Congress in 1971 to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote!! 💪🗳

This morning, Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. signed a proclamation, declaring today as Women’s Equality Day in the Cherokee Nation!

Historically, the Cherokee Nation is a matriarchal society. Cherokee women are proud and powerful and fuel our success as a tribe, and comprise over 70 percent of our government’s workforce; and are represented on our executive cabinet, Council of the Cherokee Nation and serve in many department leadership roles.

The Cherokee Nation honors and celebrates Women’s Equality Day and the 100-year anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment! Osda!
