Woman pleads not guilty to holding 14-year old captive:
Lacey Chetek Dronet, 30, is charged with molestation of a juvenile, second-degree kidnapping, drug distribution to a student and four counts of cruelty to juvenile.
Dronet allegedly beat the girl, forced her to perform s*xual acts and forced her to take co***ne and methamphetamine, authorities said.

Abusive mom gets 30-year sentence:
Jaime Brooks Day, 31, was found guilty of seconds degree cruelty to a juvenile. She faced up to 40 years in prison.
The boy testified during trial that Day only allowed him to eat grits, ramen noodles and rice; made him eat his own excrement; hung him upside down by his ankles in the bathroom; burned him on his back with a sock full of rice; had one of her three biological children help her Saran-wrap him to his bed; hit him in the face with a dustpan; threw a screwdriver at him; burned him with a blowdryer; and made him eat a handful of salt.
The 9-year-old boy reportedly weighed 38 pounds, was badly bruised and had hair growing all over him from malnourishment when he was taken to the hospital in early 2010

Bertrand's bond set at 2 million:
James Patrick Bertrand, 52, was arrested Thursday - just 10 days after his last arrest - on charges of co***ne possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer.
Bertrand the founder of the Just for Jesus rallies in Lake Charles, had been arrested numerous times this year.
He was arrested in November on drug charges, in June on forgery charges, in may on drug charges, twice within a week's time on drug charges in April, and in January on drug charges.
He was also arrested twice in Texas in late 2012.

LC man gets 15 years for DWI offenses:
Kane vezina, 35, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of fourth-offense DWI.
Vezina asked to read a letter in court, but Savoie did not allow him to do so. Savoie told Vezina he had tried to get him help, "but I became frustrated with you over the years."

Couple wanted for child s*x trafficking:
Darneesha Lashay Martin, 22, is wanted for trafficking children for s*xual purposes and for promoting prostitution authorities said.
Alcoby Con Lasalle, 19, is wanted for trafficking children for s*xual purposes and for promoting prostitution authorities said.

Grand jury returns murder indictment against LC man:
Michael Ja'Rel Tutson, 21, was indicated on a charge of second-degree murder in relation to the death of Damion Derrelle Jackson.
Two other men and a women were indicated on accessory charges for allegedly aiding Tutson. Marcus Dewayne Handy, 19, Lee James Gibbs, 20, and Johnnie Michelle Celestine all face accessory charges. Officers found jackson on the sidewalk bleeding from a gunshot.

Other indictments
Michael Shane Porter, 26, was indicted on a charge of forcible r**e.
April Monica Dupre, 32, was indicted on a charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Dupre allegedly had s*x with a 13-year-old.

71-year-old sentenced for s*x offense:
David Bird Tarver, 71, was sentenced to 25yrs without parole.
Tarver pleaded guilty in August under an Alford plea- not admitting guilt.
Tarver, who was originally charged with three counts of s*xual battery, one count of molestation and one count of indecent behavior, reportedly began molesting the girl when she was 11 years old.

Fight escalates after alleged shoplifting:
Store employees, theft suspect all charged with attempted murder
A store manager, a clerk and a suspected shoplifter have been charged with attempted second-degree murder following a fight at a Broad st. convenience store Sunday.
Thind, 39, and Singh, 24, confronted Simien and Quincy Paul Landry, both 19, resulting in a fight that left Landry beaten unconscious, Thind shot and cut with a machete and Singh cut with a machete.

Stepmom guilty in abuse trial:

Jaime Brooks Day, 31 guilty as charged of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. Prosecutors accused Day of brutally abusing and starving her stepson, who reportedly weighted 38 pounds at 9 years old when he was taken from in the days in early 2010. Day faces up to 40 years in prison when she is sentenced on dec.10.

Substitute teacher twerking under investigation:
A video that apparently shows a sulphur High School substitute teacher twerking during class last week has been circulating among students.
Twerking is a s*xually provocative dance involving thrusting hip movements in a low squatting stance.
In a copy of the six-second video the teacher can be seen doing a wall twerk, which is a handstand against the wall while twerking.
No students appear in the video, but they can be heard laughing and cheering the teacher on in the background.

Alleged gang member gets 15 years:
A Lake Charles man accused of being part of a street gang received a 15 year prison term Tuesday in state district court.
Jay Don Rubin, 30, pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree robbery and was sentenced to 35 years, with all but 15 years suspended.
Authorities said Rubin was part of the "No Witnesses No Evidence" or "NWNE" gang.
James Lee Burks III, reportedly the gang's founder, was convicted in June 2011 on 14 counts, including involvement with a criminal street gang and three counts of armed robbery.
He was sentenced to 11 life terms.
