2025 Annual Thanksgiving Poem

My gratitude for memories grew this year.
They are more fragile and precious
Than I ever realized before.

We build a lifetime of moments,
Some fleeting,
Some savored,
Some guarded
Until a spark ignites and unlocks it.

Strange how they can
float away like bubbles.
Then pop,
leaving an emotional residue,
Losing their shape,
Their magic.

Even when lost to the past
We still carry them
In who we are.
They matter
More than things,
Or status,
Or money.

They don’t gain value by
Being born in exotic places.
They don’t lose value by
Being born rustic places.

They capture the extraordinary
As well as they capture the mundane.

The people with whom we share them
May capture different images,
Feel different things,
Remember or forget.
Without memory sharers,
We might never know we forgot
Never grieve memories,
Or celebrate them.

Aging buries them.
Reunited resurrects them.
Every day is a new chance to make them.
We are blessed to have them,
And blessed to keep them.

This becomes clearest
When we watch loved ones lose them.
Revel in them. Share them,
and may they live on.

Jerry and I are getting ever closer to training AI to give free expert-level résumé scores and I need fresh samples to run through our gauntlet.

This will tell us how close our trained model is coming to applying the criteria garnered from my 25 years of employment experience to accurately assess how résumés will pass through an ATS and a human reader, and how competitive and well-branded it is.

ChatGPT uses the world wide web as a knowledge base. It doesn't discriminate between good and bad advice. It takes a few people's personal opinions who have made themselves a strong social media footprint and passes it off as fact.
