Ever since the Karmelo Anthony verdict, white folks have been flooding my comment section trying to educate me about what self-defense is.

I don’t need a lecture on self-defense from people who have spent years proving that their definition changes depending on the races of the people involved.

These same people defended George Zimmerman. They defended Kyle Rittenhouse. They defended Daniel Penny. They raised millions of dollars for white defendants who killed Black people and called them heroes, patriots, and victims.

And even when the courts convicted them, they still defended Derek Chauvin, Amber Guyger, and Jason Van D**e.

So spare me the objective legal analysis.

What the children of the chalk have consistently demonstrated is that, in their minds, self-defense exists whenever a white person kills a Black person. But when a Black person kills a white person, suddenly self-defense becomes impossible, no matter what the facts, circumstances, evidence, or law may say.

The common denominator in their legal opinions isn’t the law. It isn’t justice. It isn’t principle.

It’s race.

That’s why I don’t lose sleep over their outrage now. Their selective concern and selective application of self-defense has been on display for years.

You don’t get to cheer one standard when the deceased is white and demand another standard when the deceased is Black, then pretend you’re speaking from some lofty commitment to justice.

We’ve seen the pattern. We’ve heard the arguments. And we’re not fooled.
