Sometimes after a traumatic event people believe that if they don't think about what happened that they will forget what happened or not be affected anymore but that is not the truth for everyone.
Triggers can be anything and everywhere. They are different for everyone. You may not ever forget the trauma but it is possible to learn to cope with the way that trauma made you feel and help you get through each day.

📆 As we celebrate Pride Month this June, it's crucial to remember that while this month is about love, acceptance, and celebration, there are still many in our community who experience discrimination, harassment, and even violence.

💙🏳️‍🌈 No one should have to live in fear or be subjected to violence simply because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression. Unfortunately, these experiences are far too common, and we must stand together to address them.

🔗 As always, we stand with all victims of crime. If you’ve been the victim of a crime and need support or resources, visit the VictimConnect Resource Center at victimconnect.org.

📆 Today marks the 40th annual National Missing Children’s Day in the U.S.

💙🎗️This important awareness day started in 1983 in memory of Etan Patz, who disappeared in New York on this day in 1979. Each year, May 25 serves as a day to encourage parents, guardians, caregivers, and others concerned with the well-being of children to make child safety a priority. Learn more from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention at ojjdp.ojp.gov.

🔗 We also encourage you to visit this link from the FBI and see if you recognize any of the missing children they’re trying to find: fbi.gov/news/stories/national-missing-childrens-day-2023

☎️We stand with all victims of crime and all families who are seeking justice. If you or someone you know needs resources or support, visit our online VictimConnect Resource Center at victimconnect.org.

Change, Commitment and Consistency

It takes time to form a habit but it only takes a short period of time to break one. Change is not easy, it takes a lot of commitment and consistency.

One thing you can change is the way you think. If you are someone that thinks negatively or focuses more on the bad than good things that happen practice more positive self talk.

Tips
- Surround yourself with positive people
- Find the humor in things
- Give yourself positive affirmations before you get ready to start your day or throughout the day with little reminders for yourself

Remember it is okay to take a break. Take a mental health day, go for a walk, sit and enjoy your coffee, do something that helps you relax and reset. It is so important that we do not get stuck in a cycle and forget to take care of ourselves and enjoy the little things in life.

Self care is very important for your mental health and it looks different for everyone. It is important that you find what you need, what you enjoy, and what helps you relax. One way our director relaxes is by roller skating and reading books. One of our fellow ladies here in the Commonwealth Attorney's Office relaxes by doing yoga everyday for her lunch hour.

How do you relax?
