Myth vs. Fact: The Finale!

We’ve officially hit Week 5! To wrap up our series, I’m diving into a topic that is so important for protecting our loved ones, especially during hospital or nursing home visits.

Myth: If someone can physically sign their name or make a mark, the Notary has to notarize the document.

Fact: My job is about more than just a signature—it’s about protection. I am legally required to ensure the signer understands exactly what they are signing and that they aren’t being pressured by anyone else. If a signer is confused or heavily medicated, I must refuse the service. It’s all about maintaining integrity and keeping everyone safe!

Thank you so much for following along with this series! I’ve loved sharing these tips with you. If you ever have questions or need a signature verified, I’m here to help.

Myth vs. Fact: Week 4

Ever wondered if a Notary can certify a copy of your birth certificate?

The Truth: In Texas, we actually can’t certify "recordable" documents like birth certificates or court records. You’ll just need to reach out to the County Clerk or Vital Statistics for those official copies.

How I can help: For other important originals—like a diploma, an ID, or a private contract—I’m your person! I’m here to make sure your paperwork is handled correctly and with a smile.

It's Wednesday! Time for our week 3 Notary Myth vs. Fact!

The Myth: "I can leave a few sections blank and just fill them in later."

The Fact: A Notary cannot sign a document that has empty spaces.
In Texas, we take document security seriously! Leaving blanks is a major fraud risk, so I can’t place my seal on a page that isn’t fully complete.

Pro-Tip: If a section doesn't apply to you, just write "N/A" or draw a line through it before I arrive. This keeps your document secure and our appointment moving fast!

I love traveling to see my neighbors in Walker, San Jacinto, Grimes, and Trinity counties. Call now to book an appointment!

Notary Myth vs. Fact week 2:

Myth: "If a document is notarized, the information inside must be true."

Fact: Notaries confirm who signed, not what is written. We verify identity and intent, but we aren't private investigators or legal experts for the document's claims.

Notary Myth vs Fact, a 5 week mini-series

Myth: I can use a photocopy of my ID.

Fact: I must see the original, valid photo ID.
This can be any driver's license, identification card, or passport that is cuurent and not expired.

Join me next week for a Notary Myth vs. Fact!
