3D-printed housing is here! What do you think?
One of Houston’s first 3D-printed duplexes is under construction in the East End, on Avenue J near Navigation Boulevard.
The 1,700-square-foot home sits on a 6,100-square-foot lot and is expected to be completed by July.
The three-bedroom, 2.5-bath property includes a two-car garage and yard, with an estimated price of about $365,000—below the $386,000 average home price in ZIP code 77011, according to Houston Association of Realtors data.
The first floor will be 3D-printed with 10-foot ceilings, while the second floor will be built using traditional construction methods.
The Houston-based company behind the project, formed through a 2024 merger, has recently expanded and is building 80 homes across 13 acres near William P. Hobby Airport.
The technology allows machines to operate continuously, helping reduce labor costs amid ongoing worker shortages—particularly as about 40% of Texas construction workers are immigrants and nearly one-quarter are undocumented—and features durable, thick walls designed for insulation and resilience, with the home envisioned for multigenerational living.
