🕊️ In Loving Memory of Amauri Lynn Hughes 🕊️

Today, we honor the life of 17-year-old Amauri Lynn Hughes, a beautiful soul lost too soon to domestic violence on November 12, 2023. đź’ś Amauri was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend whose kindness left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew her. Our hearts are with her family and all whose lives she touched.

In her memory, we’ve established the Amauri Lynn Hughes EIYP Scholarship Award. Starting in 2025, this scholarship will help students who embody her resilience and grace. Applications open in January 2025—stay tuned for more details. 📚

If you’d like to contribute in Amauri’s memory, donations can be made online with a note for AMAURI.

Every dollar goes directly to funding her scholarship, advancing our mission to support girls, women, and to end the cycle of abuse. đź’ś

If you're in the kitchen cooking and you burn the bacon, who's fault is it?

Yours.

Nobody else put that bacon in the pan, turned on the stove, and left it there to cook. So, why be shoked when the bacon burns?

The point: Many times, a person will burn the bacon and act surprised. Accountability is the same way in family law. People will put themselves in situations and be surprised.

Is the nuclear family really the best model?

My divorce was not a battle. My ex-husband, John Wyche, has never attempted to take any assets from me at any time before, during or after our marriage. Anything that is written or said that states or implies otherwise is untrue and unfair. I do not agree with or support anything that aims to secure clicks and views by crafting slanted messaging at the expense of the reputation of innocent parties.

-

While I made public comments related to the delay in signing papers, I can state that any delay may have been connected to his desire to save the relationship; never to take any of my property.

-

Since this matter appears to be of concern to so many, I will use this moment to share a few lessons:

-

1. Divorce does not equal failure. We did not fail; it simply did not work. I pray for his wellbeing as I do my own and I wish him nothing but God’s choicest blessings.

-

2. If you have anything to protect going into a marriage, get a prenuptial agreement so there’s no confusion if it comes to an end. As a matter of fact, make sure you protect all of your assets with proper insurance, financial and estate planning. Our people are far behind the wealth gap; get a financial education and do what is in your power to protect what God has blessed you with.

-

3. Focus on love and truth. Be careful what you say or imply about others. No one is perfect and we all have something that we need grace to cover. With all of the mental health crises we are facing as a human race, my prayer is that we will see more commonalities of heart among each other and less judgment.

Phillip Banks was always a pleasure to work with. He was never without a smile and a kind word whenever we saw each other. His family, friends, colleagues, and community are in our thoughts and prayers.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Banks family during this time. Philip Banks served the community selflessly, was an avid family man, and believed everyone deserved a fair chance and fought hard for his clients. Your legacy will live on.❤️
