Thanks to the support of partners like Bank OZK, residents at New Hope Housing Harrisburg recently participated in a financial literacy workshop focused on understanding the value of different bank accounts and building strong financial habits.

Financial literacy is an important part of creating long-term stability and supporting residents as they work toward their goals.

Thank you, Bank OZK, for believing in our mission! 💚

The Arnold Ventures team recently toured two New Hope Housing communities, Dale Carnegie and Savoy, in Houston’s Gulfton-Sharpstown neighborhood to see how affordable housing and supportive services help New Hope residents thrive.

As Houston’s affordability crisis continues to grow, we are grateful for community partners like Arnold Ventures who help create stronger communities that provide support and opportunity to our neighbors in need across the city.

Thanks for stopping by Arnold Ventures!

Recently, residents at New Hope Housing Ennis and Gray spoke directly to the METRO Board about the transportation challenges they face and the importance of staying connected to their communities, healthcare, grocery stores, and essential services. Because of their advocacy, METRO approved an expansion of the Community Connector boundary in Second Ward, helping to close transportation gaps for seniors in need.

One of those residents is 57-year-old Yolanda. After carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis forced her to leave the career she loved, Yolanda found stability and community at New Hope Housing Ennis.

Today, she gives back as a driver for METRO Community Connector, often transporting her very own neighbors across Houston’s East End and Third Ward.

We are so proud of the residents who used their voices to advocate for their community and grateful to and all partners involved for listening and responding with action.

Yesterday, New Hope Housing’s Philanthropy and Communications team visited our longtime partners at SEARCH Homeless Services to tour their new space on Pease Street.

SEARCH was New Hope’s very first service partner back in 1997 and has provided individualized support and case management to our residents for nearly three decades.

We know firsthand the care and collaboration it takes to create spaces where people experiencing homelessness and housing instability can feel welcomed and at home. Congratulations to Alexis Loving and the entire SEARCH team on this exciting new chapter!

For more than three decades, Joy Horak-Brown has helped redefine what is possible in the fight for affordability across Houston.

In a recent front-page article by Rebecca Schuetz in the Houston Chronicle, Joy’s story is one of vision and persistence. She had a belief that, at the time, few fully understood: the solution to homelessness begins with affordable housing.

New Hope Housing celebrated the groundbreaking of our newest affordable community for families and individuals. The property will open in Fall 2027 in the historic Acres Homes neighborhood, just off the corner of Bland and Wheatley in northwest Houston.

We proudly announce the building will be named The JHB at Acres Homes in honor of our Founding President and CEO, Joy Horak-Brown, who will step away late this year after more than three decades of visionary leadership. This legacy tribute speaks to Joy’s lasting impact on affordable housing, the city of Houston, and most importantly, New Hope’s residents.

As our 16th affordable housing development, The JHB will offer 103 thoughtfully designed apartment homes, including spacious one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans for individuals and families with limited incomes. This supportive community will include onsite resident services, anchored by a fully equipped in-house clinic led by a dedicated healthcare partner.

The JHB at Acres Homes is New Hope Housing’s first community in this vibrant, rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. Developed during World War I, Acres Homes was known for its large residential sites and, even today, its semi-rural feel.

Together with YOU, we are building communities rooted in dignity, care, and hope for the future.
