No — there is NO new law giving the parent who pays child support automatic rights to claim the Child Tax Credit.

A viral TikTok falsely claimed Trump passed a law changing this. That is not true.

📌 Here’s the real law (Texas + IRS):
✔️ Child support payments do NOT control who claims a child on taxes
✔️ Under IRS rules, the custodial parent generally claims the child
✔️ A non-custodial parent can only claim the child if:
• The custodial parent signs IRS Form 8332, OR
• A court order specifically allows it
✔️ Texas Family Code Chapter 154 governs child support — not tax credits

The Office of the Attorney General works with over 60 licensing agencies and can request that these agencies suspend your driver’s, professional, hunting, and fishing licenses if you fail to pay your child support.
