⚖️ Order in the court! We recently teamed up with Creative Oasis to host an incredible mock trial, bringing the Pitt County criminal justice system to life for our community! 🏛️✨

There is no better way to learn how the legal system works than by stepping right into the courtroom. Our participants took on the roles of jurors while member of my team participated as court personnel, with District Court Judge Daniel Hines Entzminger presiding over the proceedings. This was the perfect setting to get a hands-on, inside look at how justice is shaped, debated, and delivered.Through this interactive experience, we didn't just talk about the law—we practiced law in a fun, creative, and immersive way. A massive thank you to everyone who stepped up to the bench, and to Creative Oasis for partnering with us to make civic education so engaging!

🚨 GREENVILLE MAN SENTENCED TO 20-25 YEARS FOR SECOND DEGREE MURDER 🚨

Debracy Davon Barnes pled guilty yesterday to Second-Degree Murder in connection with the August 30, 2022 homicide of 40-year-old Christopher Lamont Bullock.

The case, which remained unsolved for more than a year, was advanced by the Greenville Police Department through forensic evidence and multi-agency cooperation. Traffic camera footage from the night of the incident captured a masked individual wearing a specific hat firing at the victim, who was riding a bicycle. Investigators later recovered matching discarded clothing a few blocks from the scene. Detective Peterson of the Greenville Police Department identified Barnes as a suspect after reviewing body-worn camera footage from an East Carolina University Police Department traffic stop that occurred hours before the shooting, where Barnes was seen wearing the same hat. The clothing items were submitted to the North Carolina State Crime Laboratory, where a CODIS DNA analysis confirmed a match to Barnes.

Superior Court Judge Regina Parker sentenced Barnes to a term of 240 to 300 months (20 to 25 years) in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections. Assistant District Attorney Joel Stadiem represented the State in the proceedings.

🚨 DRUG TRAFFICKER SENTENCED TO 19+ YEARS IN PRISON 🚨

On September 15, 2026, a Pitt County jury convicted James Jamal Swinson, Jr. following a high-speed pursuit that ended with the recovery of cash and a safe packed with drugs. Superior Court Judge Regina Parker sentenced Swinson to 230–312 months in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections. The State of North Carolina was represented by Assistant District Attorney Anthony Futrell.

The conviction stems from an incident on August 14, 2024, when an N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) agent smelled ma*****na and spotted open alcohol containers during a traffic stop near the Greene County line. When instructed to step out of the vehicle, Swinson fled, leading ALE and N.C. Highway Patrol troopers from Greene and Wayne counties on a chase exceeding 100 mph across county lines. Swinson finally ditched his car in a neighborhood and fled on foot, carrying a small safe. Officers quickly apprehended him and discovered over 200 grams of co***ne inside the safe. A further search of his vehicle revealed over $23,000 in cash.

The jury found Swinson guilty of Trafficking Co***ne by possession of 200–400 grams, Trafficking Co***ne by transportation of 200–400 grams, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver, and Felony Flee to Elude Arrest. Huge thanks to the ALE and N.C. Highway Patrol for their hard work in keeping our roads and communities safe!

🚨 MAJOR DRUG CONVICTION IN GREENVILLE 🚨

A local drug trafficking investigation has culminated in a significant prison sentence. On September 14, 2026, Gerald Carney was sentenced to 127 to 190 months in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections by Superior Court Judge Regina Parker. The State of North Carolina was represented by Assistant District Attorney Anthony Futrell.

The sentence follows a detailed investigation by the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force. Between April and September 2023, officers conducted multiple controlled purchases before executing search warrants at Carney's home and business.

The operation successfully removed dangerous narcotics and weapons from our community, resulting in the seizure of: 525 grams of fentanyl, 80 grams of co***ne, 253 bindles of he**in, a fi***rm and $6,962 in cash. Carney pled guilty to multiple charges, including trafficking co***ne by possession, trafficking fentanyl by manufacturing, and possession with intent to sell and deliver co***ne. In addition to his prison term, he has been ordered to pay $10,200 in restitution to the involved law enforcement agencies.

Thank you to the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force and all assisting agencies for their dedicated work in keeping our neighborhoods safe.

Guilty Plea Brings Justice in Two Violent Crimes

Joshua Rosenburg has pled guilty to Second-Degree Murder and Attempted Murder in connection with two separate shootings that occurred in Pitt County between December 2022 and July 2023.

On December 10, 2022, Winterville Police began investigating the shooting of Jeremiah Hargett, Rosenburg’s brother, who was shot multiple times outside his residence as he returned home. Despite an extensive investigation, a suspect was not initially identified.

On July 3, 2023, Jayden Harrison was shot and killed in the parking lot of Planet Fitness in Greenville. Greenville Police immediately began investigating Harrison’s murder.

Five days later, Rosenburg was taken into custody by ECU Health Police Department for an unrelated incident. During that encounter, officers recovered a handgun from Rosenburg. Fi****ms analysis conducted by the North Carolina State Crime Laboratory determined that the fi***rm was used in both the attempted murder of Hargett and the murder of Harrison. DNA analysis of shell casings recovered from the crime scenes further linked Rosenburg to the crimes.

A joint investigation by the Winterville Police Department and Greenville Police Department ultimately led to Rosenburg’s arrest and the resolution of both violent cases.

Judge Regina Parker sentenced Rosenburg to 240–300 months for the murder of Jayden Harrison and 150–192 months for the attempted murder of Jeremiah Hargett. The sentences will be served consecutively.

The Pitt County District Attorney’s Office appreciates the dedicated investigative work of the Winterville Police Department, Greenville Police Department, ECU Health Police Department, and the North Carolina State Crime Laboratory in bringing these cases to justice.
