On this day in 1950, the first ever Peanuts comic strip debuted.

Peanuts appeared in over 2,600 newspapers worldwide during its 50-year history. Schulz produced 17,897 strips with the very last one published the day after his death in 2000. There have been no new strips released posthumously.

Many of the Peanuts characters were based on aspects of creator Charles Schulz’s personality and life.

🏈 Charlie Brown was modeled on Schulz himself.

🛩️ Snoopy was based on Schulz’s own pup, Spike. He was Charlie Brown’s best friend and confidante, active dreamer, and art aficionado, whose doghouse was decorated with works by Vincent Van Gogh and Andrew Wyeth.

📢 Lucy is perhaps the strongest personality in the Peanuts gang, a know-it-all who hands out advice in her front-yard psychiatrist’s booth. She was loosely based off Schulz’s friend, Louanne Van Pelt, with whom he played bridge.

💎 Linus—Lucy’s younger brother—was named after Schulz’s friend and fellow cartoonist Linus Maurer. Perpetually toting his security blanket, Linus is fiercely devoted to his teacher, Miss Othmar, whom he considers a "gem among gems."

🎁 Peppermint Patty is named after Schulz’s secretary. Wearing sandals year-round because they were a special gift from her father, she is the only member of the Peanuts gang who refers to Charlie Brown as “Chuck.”

❤️ Little Red-Haired Girl was never given a name and is never seen in the comic strip. She is Charlie Brown’s crush and based upon a real woman that Schulz proposed to marry, but she declined.

The Peanuts characters have many trademarks protecting them, including the character names, logos, and likenesses. In fact, there are at least 33 live trademarks in the register covering wordmarks such as Charlie Brown and Snoopy.

Consider registering your trademark with America’s Branding Agency. Don’t let Lucy pull the ball away from you, we have resources and guidance to help you with the filing process: https://bit.ly/4dbhB48

The next time you unwrap a roll of Smarties®, take a look at how IP has helped protect the popular candy’s brand.

Smarties have been around since the 1950s and is still a popular treat shared by neighbors and friends. The company produces billions of Smarties rolls each year.

Did you know they have a candy factory in New Jersey, and another in Canada where they call the iconic candy “Rockets”?

Knowing your way around "court" runs in the family.

We congratulate our founder Doug Kim frequently for his many legal awards, but one week from today, it is his mother’s turn to be honored: the City of Hickory, NC will officially dedicate the Kathy Kim Tennis Complex at Hickory City Park on September 15, recognizing more than 40 years she's spent coaching, teaching, and building the local tennis community.🎾

While Doug has spent his career in and around a legal courtroom, his mom spent hers building champions on the court, and now her name will be permanently attached to the courts and players she helped build. Congratulations, to Kathy and to the whole Kim family on this fantastic recognition! 🎾🏆 Read more: https://whky.com/hickory-city-park-tennis-complex-to-be-named-for-kathy-kim/
