Cyberstalking cases can turn on details that are easy to overlook: who actually sent the message, the context of the conversation, what was intended, whether the communication was repeated, and whether the State can properly prove and authenticate the digital evidence.

If you’ve been charged with Cyberstalking under N.C.G.S. § 14-196.3, don’t assume a collection of texts, DMs, or screenshots automatically proves the case.

You need someone who will look beyond the screenshot and examine the evidence, the context, and the law.

Guilford County’s juvenile detention rate remains one of the highest in North Carolina.

The latest full-year data shows 354 juvenile detention admissions involving 247 young people in 2025, with Guilford County’s detention admission rate ranking 5th highest in the state.

For families, these numbers are more than statistics. A juvenile charge can affect a child’s education, opportunities, freedom, and future.

If your child is facing a juvenile petition, detention hearing, probation issue, or other criminal allegation, get legal counsel involved early.

A child can be old enough to face adult court — but still too young to fully understand a lifetime consequence.

Juvenile justice should be about accountability, rehabilitation, education, and protecting a young person’s future — not simply writing that future off.

One decision can change the rest of a child’s life. Know the law. Know the options.

The numbers North Carolina parents should know.

2019.
North Carolina raised the age of juvenile jurisdiction. Most people stopped paying attention after that. The law didn't stop moving.

December 1, 2024.
The rules changed to where 16- and 17-year-olds charged with Class A–E felonies no longer start in juvenile court. They start in adult criminal court. Day one.

16 and 17.
The ages where a Class F or G felony charge means mandatory transfer to superior court.

13. The youngest a child can be moved to adult court in North Carolina. At 13, 14, or 15, a Class A felony charge makes transfer mandatory.

39% to 65%.
The share of youth in NC juvenile detention who belong to adult court, in one year, after the 2024 law took effect.

1 motion.
What it takes to send a case that started in adult court back to juvenile court. But it has to be a joint motion, the prosecutor and the defense attorney, together. That doesn't happen on its own. Someone has to make the case for it. When remand is granted, the adult court record is expunged.

The science hasn't changed. Teenagers are still developing, and they respond to counseling, community programs, and mental health services better than they respond to a prison sentence. The Supreme Court said as much in Miller v. Alabama and Montgomery v. Louisiana. What's changed is where the case starts , and where it starts matters.

If your child is facing charges, the earliest decisions carry the most weight.

People don’t usually call a custody lawyer because life is going great.

They call because they’re worried about their child. They’re being kept from seeing them. They aren’t sure what their rights are, or they feel like they’re losing precious time with their son or daughter.

If that’s where you are, let’s talk.

Every family is different, and every custody case deserves an approach that’s built around the facts—not assumptions. My job is to understand your situation, explain your options, and advocate for you every step of the way.

Whether you’re seeking custody, protecting your visitation rights, requesting an emergency custody order, modifying an existing order, or asking the court to enforce one, I’m ready to help.

If you’re looking for an attorney who will take the time to understand your case and fight for what matters most, give my office a call.

Some cybersecurity professionals know the technology.

Very few have spent years working in both.

Parents in the Triad: the rules changed, and most people don’t know it yet.

As of December 2024, North Carolina sends more 16- and 17-year-olds charged with felonies straight to adult criminal court, skipping the juvenile system entirely. And Guilford County already carries one of the five highest juvenile detention rates in the state.
Here’s what that means for your family: when a charge hits, the first hearing often decides everything that follows, whether your child gets diversion, keeps a clean record, or starts down a path that’s hard to walk back. The earlier you have counsel, the more doors stay open.

A charge is not a conviction. One bad moment should not define a child’s future.
