INSTRUCTIONS FOR RUNNING A WRITE-IN CAMPAIGN
• Instruct voters where to write your name on the ballot Example: If you were
running for Commissioner, under this heading there will be a solid line, this is the
write-in line. Be sure to instruct them to select “Write In” and type in the name.

Write In (you will type in the candidate’s name)
Write In (you will type in the candidate’s name)
It is important that the name is on the correct line and the spelling of your name is
consistent.
You can campaign outside your polling place on Election Day and ask
electors to please consider you for the position (the office you are seeking).
You must be at least 10 feet from the entrance of the polling place.
To win the primary nomination you need at least 10 write-in votes for at local
position and 100 write-in votes for a county position. If someone else is
running a write-in, you will need more votes than that person. If you are
running a write-in against someone already on the ballot, you will need one
more vote than that person.
You can have cards made asking voters to write your name as printed on the card.
This would help with spelling and other discrepancies. Also on the card you can give
and example of the position and space provided on the ballot for a write-in:
