We hear this a lot. So we ask: which ones?

Usually it's the financials out of QuickBooks — revenue, expenses, what's in the bank.

That's half the picture.

Your accounting software knows the money, but it has no idea which matters it came from, how much time went into it, or whether the work was even billed. That story lives in Clio or Smokeball — a completely separate system.

Combine the two into a single view and data becomes insight:
✔️ Revenue against the hours behind it
✔️ Which matter types actually pay
✔️ Which ones just keep everyone busy

Get them side by side this month — even if it's just a spreadsheet to start. 📈

For most of last year, the big federal tax bill was a moving target. That's over — it's law now. 📋

Two pieces matter for law firm owners:

1️⃣ The 20% pass-through deduction is now permanent. No more wondering if it expires at year end. You can build long-term plans around it.

2️⃣ The SALT cap jumped from $10,000 to $40,000 for anyone earning under $500,000 — but only from 2025 through 2029. Then it drops back.

That second one is a five-year window. For partners in high-tax states, it's worth real planning.

Our advice? Sit down with whoever handles your tax planning before year end.

The permanent one you build on. The temporary one you use before it's gone. ⏳

Stacy comes with over 20 years of experience in the accounting field. She holds a BS in Accounting from Regis University and a CPA license in the state of Arizona. While she originally started in corporate accounting, she moved to law firm accounting in 2017. She enjoys trust fund accounting and training teams on best practices in the industry. In her free time Stacy loves classic literature and cooking and entertaining with her family.

David is a Colorado native with deep roots in the small-town community where he and his wife grew up. He is a proud father of three — two boys and a girl ranging from six years old to 10 months — which keeps life both busy and rewarding. Outside of work, David enjoys watching and playing basketball, spending time outdoors, and advocating for Autism awareness.
Professionally, David brings over 10 years of experience in legal accounting and billing, having started his career as an accounts payable clerk and advancing into supervisory roles over the past five years. He is known for his strong attention to detail and dedication to exceptional client service, consistently ensuring accuracy while building positive relationships with clients and colleagues alike. His background reflects a deep commitment to operational excellence and team leadership within the legal financial field.
