📢 Attention Illinois residential Landlords! 🏠

A new law, the Safer Homes Act, is now in effect in Illinois!

🔹 What’s changing?
Under the Safer Homes Act, all landlords of residential properties in Illinois will now be required to include the state-prepared summary of this act at the beginning of every lease and lease renewal as of January 1, 2026.

📜 Landlords: Be sure to update your lease documents and lease renewal forms immediately to include this new disclosure so you stay compliant with state law.

The Illinois Department of Human Rights has a summary of the Safer Homes Act and the required documents on their website:

Effective January 1, 2026, the Summary of Rights for Safer Homes Act requires landlords (owners of the building or someone working for them to rent residences) provide a summary of rights to all Illinois housing tenants as the first page of their written lease, whether the lease is new or a renewal

🌟 Meet Trustee, Kandace Hofer! 🌟

Hi everyone! I’m Kandace Hofer, Managing Attorney of Hofer Law, where I practice estate planning and administration (wills, trusts, etc.), business formation and contracts (limited liability companies, partnerships, corporations, etc.), and real estate transactions (buying and selling houses, farm ground, commercial property, reviewing wind and solar leases for landowners, etc.).

I joined the Chamber Board to get more involved in the community I work in and to help and work with other local businesses in the area. I love collaborating with other business owners and see what Chamber can do to help our local businesses thrive.

Fun fact: I love to garden and grow fresh vegetables and cut flowers.
