"I said, why don't we wait until after the election? They said, 'No, sir. Let's do it now,'" Trump said as he discussed the checks during a White House Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.

Yeah, right. Trump was the one doubting the timing. Sure, Jan. UH HUH.

This is so blatantly self serving, using the levers of government to send voters cash money to improve electoral outcomes, and it’s so bad it rises to the level of an impeachable offense.

I’m quite sure the “list” of eligible recipients was carefully curated to achieve maximum political advantage.

This pay for votes scheme, along with last year’s gerrymandering, this year’s voter roll purges, endless Latino intimidation by ICE, 9-figure dark money political advantage buys - and the coup d’grace - troops or law enforcement conspicuously posted at the polls - will be the electoral package to ensure “no fraud” on Nov. 3.

And when Republicans lose races across the map - whether by wide or small margins - count on Trump and his “strike team” to allege widespread fraud and then use the next sixty days to nullify every result he can on January 3 when it’s time to seat the new Congress.

Of course, the Republican wins will be correct - under no review - because it was the “right” result.

About 1 million Americans across 30 states will start receiving $500 ACA refund checks this week from President Trump. See where the money is going.

Read a head shake Sad recent Facebook post documenting higher costs of construction due to labor force being snatched off job sites and deported.

One comment said “Train American workers.” Response was “American kids don’t even cut their parents’ grass.” Also, “mortar and grout specialty requested, and I couldn’t find anyone left.” The best comment, of course, which we see a lot of, was this: “If they only had entered legally they’d be welcome and could stay.”

Ah, yes. How generous of you, fellow American.

Of course, no one could really say what “entered legally” actually entails. I mean step by step. Anyone who has typed these words into their Facebook comment “if only they had entered legally …” (which, of course, is the Alabama cousin of “if only they had followed officers’ instructions…”) surely have never had to enter legally. Call an immigration lawyer and find out.

There are a number of immigrants who entered legally - and I’ll even add “under Biden” - only to later learn the political sands had shifted and their paperwork was no longer sufficient - so they had to go.

Wouldn’t it be interesting to hold Americans to the same standard. You gotta be legal …. To STAY!

No running red lights, pay every cent of your taxes on time, no lying on your resume, make sure you pay the FULL employer taxes if you hire a domestic employee. Don’t be late on paying your electrical bill.

But, of course, legal is a relative term depending on whose head is on the chopping block. Hey, even the Constitution is malleable and subject to the majority interpretation of people - usually white men - who you’ll never, ever meet who went to Harvard and such lovely far away campuses.

The simple solution is to elect members of congress who understand how to change the law so it meets the economic needs of our society. Immigration is the only way to sustain America. It always has been. It’s actually what this nation was founded upon - people who got in boats - headed West - and when they arrived they beat down the natives and made it their land. Be honest about it.

Well, maybe I’ve stumbled upon the problem here in issuing my rant. Are we worried we will be beaten down by people immigrating now? Is that it?

Well, I don’t see that as a rational concern. Better to use American values to promote the notion of E Pluribus Unum. And let’s not be so cruel to families who get up before sunrise, work hard and provide for their families - and pay into the social security system without any right to receive it later.

Thank you for reading!

Thousands of people walk past this fountain on the UT campus every week and have no idea what it's actually a memorial to. 🕊️

The Littlefield Fountain was dedicated in 1933 on the South Mall, sculpted by Pompeo Coppini with architect Paul Philippe Cret designing its setting. It was funded by regent George W. Littlefield, who originally wanted it built as a Confederate memorial. Coppini pushed back and redirected the design into something different: a tribute to the University of Texas students and alumni who died in World War I, with the bronze figure of Columbia leading a ship's prow through the water.

It's easy to walk past it as just a nice photo spot with the Tower in the background, but the story behind why it looks the way it does says a lot about the fights over public memory that were happening in Texas at the time, and are still being debated today.

Did you know the backstory here, or has this always just been "the fountain by the Tower" to you?

This is Epic!!!

“I’ve known many fellow Longhorns; these Longhorns are friends of mine. Senator, you’re no Longhorn.”

Also, props to the cheerleaders for keeping a positive attitude. RESPECT.

Also, if you like to bear arms, and you’re for a robust expression of the Second Amendment, the junior amendment in the Bill of Rights, then you’ll join me in applauding these students who BOOED TF out Junior Senator Cruz.

Our voices are our weapons, witness here a robust deployment of the FIRST Amendment, and you gotta love FREE EXPRESSION. On campus, especially. So, to hell with SB2972.
