What is a Marital status affidavit in Texas?
An affidavit that is used to confirm the marital status and history of an individual in connection with a real property purchase and sale transaction in Texas.
In most cases this is a simple and straightforward document. But today this document was a very sensitive one for my client. She lost her husband three months ago and still finds it difficult to check the box that she is “unmarried”. For her she will always be married to her sweetheart of 55 years. In this job we are often called to take time with delicate situations like these. It’s not about rushing through the documents but about caring for the tender hearts of those who do not see this as a simple transaction. She was selling her family home of 40 years - the home in which she said goodbye to her husband. We took the time needed. There were tears and there were memories and I felt privileged to have been on this small part of her journey.
