Used someone's photo and gave them credit, so you're in the clear? Not quite.

Myth: If you credit the creator, it's fair use.

Fact: Credit isn't part of the fair use test. Courts look at four factors instead:

* Why you used the work
* What kind of work it is
* How much you took
* Whether your use hurts the owner's sales

In the 1970s, six female attorneys entered the legal profession, driven to champion social justice and break through systemic barriers.

Facing everything from a severe lack of facilities to being mistaken for clients, these trailblazers blazed a path forward for future generations while building distinguished legal careers.

“Everyone would address my male client, who was not a lawyer, as the attorney,” recalls estate planning and probate attorney Mary Anne Vance. “Then you'd have to say things like, 'No, I'm the attorney. No, I'm really the attorney.'”

Got stopped at a DUI checkpoint? Here’s what you should know. 🚗

DUI checkpoints are legal under federal law, but each state sets its own rules. 38 states use them, and 12 don’t. Police also have to follow certain steps, like picking cars in a neutral way and keeping stops short.

You can stay silent, though you still have to give your name, license, registration, and insurance. You can also say no to a breath or field sobriety test. In many states, that means an automatic license suspension.

Is your rent allowed to increase THAT much? It depends on where you live. 🏠

Rent control laws limit how much a landlord can charge or raise rent. In the U.S., it’s up to states and cities, not the federal government.

Only two states, Oregon and California, cap rent increases statewide. Cities in New York, New Jersey, California, Maryland, Minnesota, and Maine have their own rules, as well as Washington, D.C.

New York City runs two separate systems, and which one applies often depends on when your building was built.

Swipe through for the basics and a list of questions to ask about your own rental. Then learn more at Super Lawyers:

Inspired by her little sister Hania, Royal Oak, Michigan, business law attorney Karolina Powalka always wanted to be a disability rights advocate, but she got an early reality check.

"When I asked my civil procedure professor what it would take. She goes, ‘Unless you want to live in a box on the side of the road, you may want to reconsider,’" she says.

But local nonprofit FAR Therapeutic Arts and Recreation brought her back, and now Powalka can support her "superstar" sister and community.

"So, full circle, I found a way to be an advocate without having to live in a box on the side of the road.”

Can police stop you and pat you down? Yes, but only under certain conditions.

Officers need “reasonable suspicion,” which means specific facts that suggest you are armed. A hunch is not enough. They can pat down your outer clothing for weapons, but they can’t do a full search.

If a stop was unlawful, evidence from it may not be allowed in court. A criminal defense attorney can file a motion to suppress it.

Stopped by police and not sure if it was legal? Talk to a lawyer. Find a top criminal defense attorney near you through the link in our bio.

Aida Spahic was 8 when war broke out in her native Bosnia-Herzegovina.

What she and her family endured while fighting to survive and escaping to Michigan shaped her into the criminal defense advocate she is today.

“I experienced two different worlds: One was a war where there’s absolutely no system of justice, and then growing up in the Detroit area where the justice system is very real, but it’s not always fair, especially for certain communities,” she says.

“It gave me a deep respect for the law, but also I know that it doesn’t always work the way that it should.”
