Is it legal to notarize handwritten documents?
Yes, absolutely. In the early years of the United States, most documents were handwritten. Notaries routinely notarized handwritten documents as part of their authorized notarial acts. Even in modern times, many kinds of documents — wills, deeds, contracts, powers of attorney, and so forth — can still lawfully be handwritten. What was permissible and legal in early times is still legal today; Notaries are allowed to notarize handwritten documents. Besides, it is technically the signer’s signature that is notarized, not the document. And, signatures are almost always handwritten.

Sim, absolutamente. Nos primeiros anos dos Estados Unidos, a maioria dos documentos era escrita à mão. Os notários rotineiramente autenticavam documentos manuscritos como parte de seus atos notariais autorizados. Mesmo nos tempos modernos, muitos tipos de documentos — testamentos, escrituras, contratos, procurações e assim por diante — ainda podem ser legalmente escritos à mão. O que era permitido e legal nos primeiros tempos ainda é legal hoje; os notários têm permissão para autenticar documentos manuscritos. Além disso, é tecnicamente a assinatura do signatário que é autenticada, não o documento. E as assinaturas são quase sempre manuscritas.
