📓 Tip of the Week: Keep a parenting journal or a very detailed calendar.

In family law cases, details matter. Recording exchanges, medical appointments, school events, and important conversations as they happen creates a clear timeline that's far more reliable than trying to remember months later.

The best evidence is often the documentation you consistently keep, even if you're not ready to file for divorce or modification quite yet.

The family law team at Carrington Coleman wishes every family a very Happy Father’s Day Weekend. If you are in a co-parenting situation, make sure to check your most current court order for possession times. Most standard orders require a 6 pm exchange time on Sunday evening or Monday at 8 am or 9 am. Orders also ALWAYS allow parents to make agreements they deem best for their children, including expanding or changing possession times. To avoid any conflict and/or confusion, talk with your co-parent and have a plan, especially if you are wanting to spend some extra quality time with your kiddo(s).

In family law, one thing is always true: no two families look exactly alike.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the many ways people build families, find support, and create communities rooted in love. We are proud to serve clients from all walks of life and remain committed to treating every family with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Happy Pride Month. 🌈

Also, if our filming setup looks a little less than award-winning, please excuse us—we’re in the middle of moving offices. Apparently sparse rooms, removal of all decorations, and questionable lighting are all part of the process. 📦😅

👉🏻Most (not all) orders have language regarding international travel for children and notice requirements parents have to give each other, such as flight information, destinations, and emergency contacts. Make sure you are following those notice requirements and providing all applicable information to your co-parent so you don’t have to unexpectedly cancel your trip.

✈️If your order does NOT have travel language, secure your child’s passport and any necessary consent documents well in advance of your trip. If the other parent refuses, make sure to speak with a qualified family law attorney so you can file suit, get a court order (or agreement), and not have your vacation ruined.

It's vacation season, but before posting photos, videos, or personal information about your children, consider their privacy and safety. Camp and vacation photos are fun but can also disclose a lot of information.

For co-parents, it’s important to discuss expectations regarding social media use, screen time, and online activity for children during the summer months when school is out!

If you’re going through a family law matter, how you organize your documents matters a lot more than what you might think. 📑 , one of our family law paralegals, put together a quick guide for clients on what we actually need, and how to send it. 🙌🏻 This will save you money in the long run and also help your legal team navigate your case.

A few things worth noting: for text messages and emails as well as financial documents, don’t send screenshots. ❌❌❌ There’s better software for proper downloads; your legal team can walk you through it. And for account/credit card statements, full and complete means full and complete. 💰 Don’t send with missing pages or only a summary. This will create more work and expense for you.

Save this post; you’ll thank yourself later. 🫶🏻
