North 36th and Dodge is officially closed!

🚨 Big news for Iowa homeowners and future homebuyers! 🚨

Starting July 1, Iowa is rolling out several new real estate laws and a couple of them could save you money.

🏡 Already own a home?

Iowa is replacing the old Homestead Credit with a new Homestead Exemption.

What does that mean?

Instead of a small tax credit, a portion of your home's value will now be excluded before property taxes are calculated. In plain English...many Iowa homeowners should see lower property taxes going forward.

💰 Thinking about buying your first home?

This may be the biggest change.

Iowa has created the new FirstHome Iowa Savings Account.

Rather than putting money into a regular savings account, eligible first-time buyers can save for their down payment in a special account that also comes with Iowa state income tax advantages.

If you're already saving for your first home, why not let your savings work a little harder?

There are also new laws aimed at:
✅ Making HOA purchases more transparent
✅ Improving home inspection negotiations
✅ Supporting more housing options across Iowa

This closing might be my favorite of the year.

Lilly and Wes met me through Zillow months ago and the three of us quickly became friends. They were determined to find their first home and realized quickly I wasn’t going to let them buy anything they didn’t love.

It took time, but we shared a ton of laughs along the way. It was a great reminder of the best part of this profession - meeting great people.
