On May 7, 2026, the Department of State announced that it will begin revoking passports for individuals with child support arrears of more than $2500. The individual becomes eligible for a new U.S. passport once HHS certifies that the child support arrears has been paid. If the person is overseas at the time of revocation, they may contact a U.S. consular post to apply for a limited-validity passport for direct return to the United States. El 7 de mayo de 2026, el Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos (DOS) anunció que comenzará a revocar los pasaportes de las personas que tengan atrasos en el pago de manutención infantil superiores a $2,500. La persona será elegible para obtener un nuevo pasaporte estadounidense una vez que el Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos (HHS) certifique que los atrasos de manutención infantil han sido pagados. Si la persona se encuentra en el extranjero al momento de la revocación, puede comunicarse con un consulado o embajada de los Estados Unidos para solicitar un pasaporte de validez limitada que le permita regresar directamente a los Estados Unidos.
