Who has to prove the case in criminal court?

In most criminal cases, the burden of proof is on the State. That means it is the State’s responsibility to present enough evidence to prove guilt, often beyond a reasonable doubt.

When both parties are arrested in a domestic violence case, things can get complicated quickly.
