End of summer recap ✨

✨Earlier this summer, South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago) hosted its mentorship kickoff at Recess. We enjoyed good food and company at one of west loops most iconic patios.

✨ Winston & Strawn hosted our team and senior attorney members for our Autumn Senior Attorney Breakfast. A great opportunity to reconnect as the summer winds down.

✨ I attended the Decalogue, CBA Alliance for Women, ISBA Women in the Law, and Women’s Bar Association Event with MSNBC Analyst Jill Wine-Banks. A trailblazer from the Skokie area who prosecuted senior leadership in Nixon’s administration!

✨ Muslim Bar Association of Chicago’s Board and Advisory Board had a great time connecting and planning for Q4!

This year might be winding down, but we’ve still got lots of interesting, fun, and useful initiatives planned for the rest of the year, including SABA’s Annual Gala on October 18th. Have you gotten your ticket yet?

August recap ✨

I was able to snag a few photos with Sonni Williams, the first woman of color to lead the Illinois State Bar Association at both her reception and the NAPABA Law Foundation’s networking event. Congratulations on this great achievement Sonni and thank you for being an ally to marginalized communities.

I had the privilege of attending the investiture of Judge Sunil Harjani as an Article III judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on behalf of South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago). The program included remarks by Senators Durbin and Duckworth and Rep. Krishnamoorthi, and Justice Tailor.

Finally, during the chaos of DNC week in Chicago, I was fortunate to attend an event honoring the hard work of Keith Ellison. In her opening remarks introducing Ellison, Representative Ilhan Omar discussed her love of Bollywood movies, the need to speak up against religious supremacy in America and how we must continue to always speak truth to power.

Proud to represent South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago) along with Neha Khandhadia at the second annual Salute to our Veterans Event as a bronze sponsor. Decalogue Society Of Lawyers and President Judge Megan Goldish led 40 different bar associations in unity and remembrance.

✨ The bar admission ceremony for the new attorneys who passed the February 2024 Bar Exam was held in Chicago with Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis swearing-in the candidates.

✨ The The Chicago Bar Association’s 150th anniversary was held at the iconic Union Station.

✨ The 2024 Vanguard Awards honored individuals and institutions who have made the law and legal profession more accessible to the community. I was able to support both South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago) and Muslim Bar Association of Chicago awardees.

✨ The Asian American Bar Association of Greater Chicago (AABA Chicago)’s Otaka Judicial Reception, with a swearing in ceremony for the Asian American Judges Association of Illinois honored Senator Durbin for his commitment to diversity.

✨ Littler and South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago) cohosted panel discussing the survival of DEI after the a Supreme Court decision regarding affirmation action.

✨ South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago) cohosted a panel with Puerto Rican Bar Association, Inc. (PRBA) BWLA of Greater Chicago, Inc. LAGBAC - Chicago's LGBTQ+ Bar Association and Muslim Bar Association of Chicago to ensure that our communities understood the role of the Illinois Human Rights Commission.

Forever grateful for South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago) for allowing me to represent us in these spaces during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

✨ Congratulations to Antara Nath Rivera on her appointment to the bench. You deserve every bit of success and South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago) is lucky to have you co-lead our programming this year!
✨ Ranjini Rajan and Laxmi Sarathy hosted a compelling CLE for South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago) and Young Lawyers Section of the Chicago Bar Association regarding intersectionality, code-switching & trauma informed lawyering.
✨ Thank you to South Asia Institute for hosting our team for the Paglees Exhibit- an installation exploring the line between reason and madness from an intersectional feminist perspective.
✨ Neha Khandhadia kicked off our Women’s Committee Fireside Chat Series, where we learned from Shoba Pillay about her trailblazing journey. Thank you to Jenner & Block for hosting us!

Last Tuesday we celebrated the women that have been trailblazers in the South Asian legal community at our annual Judicial Reception at the Arts Club of Chicago. We honored Judge Sanju Oommen Green, our Judge of the Year, and Loveleen Ahuja, our Rising Judicial Star (and the first Sikh judge appointed to Cook County!!). Our keynote speaker, Shobhana Johri Verma, is the executive director of The South Asian American Policy & Research Institute, a non-profit focused on elevating policy initiatives on civic engagement, hate crimes, access to health care, economic development and immigration. One of my favorite parts of the evening was sharing my culture with the attendees by passing around dates at Iftar time for the first fast of Ramadan. Thank you for joining us for an evening of community and celebration. A special thanks to the SABA Chicago team- we have a phenomenal group working hard to make this year a success!

On Tuesday I had the honor of co-hosting the Muslim Bar Association of Chicago gala along with my colleagues at the iconic University Club of Chicago. Along with a lively night of Networking, we were able to accomplish-

1. Visibility: It's was a chance for our association to showcase our work and achievements within the legal community and beyond, raising awareness about issues affecting Muslim lawyers and the community at large. Thank you to those outside of our community to who came to provide support and to learn. And congratulations to Mahrukh Hussain Junaid “J” Afeef and Nikia Marie Bilal for your well-deserved awards. You are giants amongst us.

2. Fundraising: We were able to secure funds for our future activities to strengthen our organization and scholarships including for our endowed -MBA Scholarship Program.

3. Community Building: These events strengthen bonds and foster a sense of community among members, providing a space for camaraderie, celebration, and solidarity. We are not alone in profession that can sometimes feel isolating.

4. Advocacy: The gala served as a platform for MBA to advocate for important legal and social issues affecting Muslims, including civil rights, discrimination, the upcoming election, and solidarity in times of immense suffering in Gaza. Special thanks to Omar Shakir Dima Khalidi and Keith Ellison for sharing your work and wisdom with our community.

I hope the energy from this event informs the work we do in the next days, weeks, and months. See you next year!

During this Women’s History Month I’ve already had the honor of attending many women- focused events:

1. annual luncheon with Busy Philipps- ACLU’s Artist Ambassador for Reproductive Freedom- focusing on the protection of women and trans rights in Illinois and beyond !

2. Annual Gala and Fashion show, raising money to provide culturally competent services and job skills training to domestic violence survivors.

3. ‘s Annual Judicial Reception honoring Focused, Fearless, and Formidable Black Women Federal Judges- a group of inspiring trailblazers and some of the best speeches I’ve ever heard.

4. Annual Judicial Reception honoring among others Justice Sanjay Tailor, a cofounder and advisory board member of .chicago ! It felt like the entire legal community fit into the Chicago Cultural Center- one of my favorite venues in the city.

Thank you to the National Muslim Law Students Association (NMLSA) for again inviting me to speak on the panel Captaining Your Ship: Starting Your Own Law Firm. It’s been a joy to share this career path with law students, and to encourage them to design their workplace and career! It feels like I was a law student just yesterday, but this month already marks three years of Siddiqui Family Law!

February has been a gorgeous month full of bar association events. It has been my honor to represent South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago) at

1. Asian American Bar Association of Greater Chicago (AABA Chicago)’s 36th Annual Installation Ceremony & Awards Reception honoring Saba’s own Abiman Rajadurai

2. A joint SABA Chicago event with AFCC | Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and Decalogue Society Of Lawyers where we discussed the nuances of different faith in divorcing families

3. Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois Annual Judicial Reception honoring Judge of the Year-Justice Ramon Ocasio III- and HLAI Amigo of the Year- State Representative Fred Crespo.

4. Decalogue Society Of Lawyers’ Reception in Honor of the Judiciary during its 90th (!) year

I greatly enjoyed attending these events, and am looking forward to the bar programming for the rest of the year!
