RGZ is beyond proud to be part of the legal team in this proposed class action in the District of Nevada. Twelve students and their families, as well as the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, have achieved a major victory today in a proposed class action lawsuit against the Clark County School District (CCSD) and the Nevada Department of Education (NDE).

The lawsuit seeks systemic reforms to address widespread violations of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Those violations include, among many others, failing to locate and identify children with disabilities, conduct appropriate evaluations for children already identified, and provide appropriate specially designed instruction, related services, and behavioral supports.

Today, the federal district court denied the motions to dismiss filed by both CCSD and NDE. This means the case will move forward—an important step toward achieving meaningful change for students with disabilities in the fifth largest school district in the country.

The law firms representing the families are Reisman Gran Zuba, Freeman Law Offices, Rogich Law Firm, Wasserman Little, and Simmons Freeman.

But this victory belongs to the brave families who stepped forward to demand better. We are honored to stand with them in this fight for justice and equity.

📣 Big News from the Supreme Court 📣
In a unanimous decision today, the Court affirmed that children with disabilities and their families should not face a tougher burden of proof than others when bringing disability discrimination claims under federal civil rights laws. This is a powerful step forward in ensuring fairness and equal treatment for all. 💪⚖️

Judith A. Gran and I, Sarah E. Zuba, are enormously proud to announce that our partner, Catherine Merino Reisman, has been honored by the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. with the 2025 Diane Lipton Award for Outstanding Advocacy. Catherine’s advocacy for individuals with disabilities and their parents, and the civil rights and special education community as a whole, is relentless, unflinching, and compassionate; her opposition to injustice is fierce; the reach of her appellate work is nationwide; and her legal brilliance is unmatched. But most importantly, Catherine is more than an attorney to her clients; she is a therapist, a mentor, and a friend – indeed, for many, she feels like family.
