Governor Cooper has announced new judicial appointments for our state and I am thrilled to have been appointed to serve as as a District Court Judge, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Rickye McKoy-Mitchell. With this appointment I can begin my service to the people of Mecklenburg County sooner than anticipated. I am grateful to Governor Cooper for his trust and to Judge McKoy-Mitchell for her leadership. I will remain on your November ballot as I run—unopposed—to keep this seat. Thank you for your support. I am grateful for this opportunity and prayerful that I will make positive and lasting impact.

Clients: we will be in touch to continue discussing next steps. Don't fret!

Today ended three years for me on the Board of Directors and an additional two years on the Executive Committee as Secretary. These years have been fulfilling as I connected with fellow Bar members and staff while helping to move our bar forward. I'm grateful for all of our Bar leaders who have believed in me and look forward to where we will go under Erin Taylor's leadership. It's been a privilege to serve and I look forward to joining a new committee in the coming year. I encourage you to get involved if you are not already. Our profession needs your input.

I’m excited to partner with Black Fathers Rock again this year as they prepare to celebrate and change the narrative surrounding black fatherhood at their annual awards celebration on Fathers’ Day.

This year, I’m thrilled to be sponsoring the their first Co-Parent of the Year Award. You know co-parenting is near and dear to my heart. I’ve dedicated my career to custody work and most days I’m in the trenches on those cases where folks can’t seem to work together. It’s a breath of fresh air to celebrate those co-parents who have found a way to thrive post separation for their children.

There could be no award given to a co-parenting dad, if the co-parenting mom doesnt agree that he should be honored for his efforts. So, to that end, co-parenting moms, we need your nominations!

Please email [email protected] with your co-parent’s name and why he should receive this year’s Co-Parent of the Year Award. Please include “Co-Parent of the Year” in the subject line. All nominations must be received by Friday April 22nd.

have come up recently in consultations. Folks are using them as a low cost private investigator essentially. As you can see here the 'subject' is notified (if they have an iPhone) that there is an air tag near them. Please consult with your attorney if you are being or considering tracking.

Here's what I gather from this whopping payout:

1. This is being reported as a settlement. That means it was agreed to and presumably both sides got something they wanted.

2. It's reported that she has primary custody so the child support numbers don't seem to fit those facts. Perhaps she gave him what he wanted there so that she could get her preferred custodial schedule.

3. She's reported to have a net worth in excess of 30 million. He's getting 1.3 million of that.

4. Considering their almost 9 year marriage, the alimony duration is short.

5. If she's paying this much, she has this much.

I'm always honored when out of county litigants still decide to consult with me even though I'm not likely to take their out of county case. Most want strategy, second opinions or for me to consult with their existing attorney.

Even if you aren't in Mecklenburg or a surrounding county, a consultation may be a good investment in your North Carolina case.

Schedule today at 704-749-3106.
