Here is some advice for first-time homeowners.
Make sure you check the screws in your lock's strike plate. Most people know that one of the first things to do after closing is to change all exterior locks. However, many people are unaware that the strike must be secured with the right screws. Your strike will most likely be attached with half-inch screws and easily kicked out by a burglar. You need to replace the 1/2-inch screws with 4-inch screws that go through the door frame and into the framing of the house. They can kick for a long time before tiring! The screw in his hand in the picture is the screw that came with the door hardware. Making a burglar make a lot of noise and fail in their initial plan will not only give you time to arm yourself, but they will most likely move on to a less difficult target.
