After almost 3 years, Georgetown County Council is going to consider doing what I believe is the right thing - giving public safety (police, fire, EMS) and general government employees the bonuses from the funds the county received from the American Rescue Plan Act.

All the plaintiffs in our suit worked during the COVID-19 pandemic - and the County acknowledges that - but their employment ended before the County made the payments. Many of these folks left on good terms with the County, sometimes taking jobs closed to family or promotions elsewhere. There is was nothing else the folks who received the payments did to warrant them except being employed on an arbitrary date.

Tonight is a great opportunity for the County to inform the public this week was not a nefarious or deceitful decision, and acknowledge the right thing to do is give the people who took care of the rest of us during the pandemic should get a few extra bucks in their pockets.

As we observe Memorial Day, we honor and remember those who gave everything to defend our country, and our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones in service. Thank you to our veterans, active military members, and their families for their service and sacrifices.

Our client's home burned to the ground after her neighbors started a fire to burn a pile of leaves and left it unattended. After receiving the limits of her own homeowners insurance policy, she contacted us to pursue a claim against her negligent neighbors. Attorney Clay Hopkins filed a lawsuit and was able to obtain a settlement of $250,000 quickly after the neighbors were served.

While healing from an injury and being quarantined from COVID, our client developed bed sores left untreated by hospital staff. These bed sores required surgery to treat, resulting in significant pain and suffering. Attorney Clay Hopkins fought for justice for her maltreatment and ultimately won the family a settlement of $125,000.

Things have been hectic around here. I did not get around to bragging about our awesome real estate team, led by Shellie Todd.
