🚨FAMILY COURT QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Should your family court judge be permitted to interview your child "in chambers" (in their office) in private while your case is being litigated? If so, do you think you should have the right to be present while the interview is taking place?

With my newfound interest to highlight the importance of the public's "knowledge" of judges they vote for, I think it's important to highlight positives along with the negatives.

With that said, I want to give a big shout out to Judge Jennifer Bailey, Circuit Judge in Kanawha County, who sacrificed more time than she had on her docket to help a family achieve a favorable outcome. Although I don't always agree with decisions from every bench (which is the nature of my job), Judge Bailey has always run her courtroom in a way that makes litigants feel comfortable and attorneys feel important and respected. I always enjoy appearing in front of her, and I look forward to doing more of it!

"The Judiciary" has always been a sacred branch--unshakeable, unbiased, and a solid foundation for the American justice system.

But, we forget that judges are in elected seats. In other words, WE the people put the judges on the bench. However, how many of you have never interacted with the justice system or the court system in general? Do you really know who you're voting for?

Well, my friends at Judge-y have developed an app where we the people can judge the judges. I think it's an interesting concept, and I look forward to seeing how it all unfolds. Transparency and accountability in the court system--especially in the family court system--is essential in maintaining public trust in the judiciary.

I downloaded the app from the Apple store tonight so it's up and running. 🏃
