To any victim of domestic violence, represented by counsel or not: YOU CAN GO TO YOUR LOCAL COURTHOUSE AT ANY TIME, DAY OR NIGHT, TO OBTAIN AND EMERGENCY PROTECTIVE ORDER.
Do not let anyone tell you that you cannot.
Thankfully, I don't have to face this much in Kanawha County because we have some of the best magistrates around (one or two stragglers), but if you live, specifically, in Lincoln County, do not let Magistrate Sophia Tulley tell you they don't do DVPs on weekends. Do not let her tell you that they don't have a deputy on duty to serve a DVP. Lincoln County community members deserve much better service than that from their court system.
A great example of a Magistrate that will do his job is Todd Chevalier, who came out on a weekend at the drop of a hat to serve the community. Of course I could name many others that have gone above and beyond for my clients, but I'm thankful the list is too long.
If you or someone you know is in an emergency domestic violence situation at an unusual hour or on the weekends, please call me. I will get you where you need to go. Domestic Violence doesn't just happen from Monday to Friday.
