How does parenting time affect child support in Colorado?
For years, the difference between 92 and 93 overnights could have a significant impact on the child support calculation. That’s changing under the updated guidelines. Instead of relying on that same cutoff, parenting-time credit now increases gradually based on the number of overnights.
The changes don’t stop there. The updated guidelines also give more consideration to lower-income parents, and the child support schedule now applies to combined parental incomes of up to $40,000 per month.
If you already have a child support order, though, a new calculation doesn’t automatically mean your support will change. A parent still has to meet the legal requirements for a modification before a new amount can be ordered.
Parenting schedules and finances can change over time, and even a small change in overnights can affect the numbers. If your family’s circumstances have changed, it’s worth taking a closer look at how the current guidelines apply to your situation. 🤍
