The Erie County Department of Social Services is here to help eligible households stay safe and comfortable during the warmer months through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Cooling Assistance Benefit.

☀️ Cooling Outreach Dates – June 2026

Eligible residents may receive assistance toward an air conditioner or fan (including installation) to help keep homes cool and safe during extreme heat.

Keep your info up-to-date!

When you're moving out of temporary housing, be sure to alert each of your DSS caseworkers with your new address and housing costs.

Under the "One Agency Rule," once you provide new info to one unit at DSS, all other units should have access to that info, but sometimes it can take a bit for the updates to process.

Providing updated information as soon as it's available can help to ensure that your other benefits, such as temporary assistance or SNAP, are calculated correctly.
