A new BIA decision could have major immigration consequences for certain noncitizens with aggravated felony convictions. ⚖️🌎

The ruling addresses inadmissibility under INA § 212(a)(8)(A) and, importantly, applies the new rule prospectively—meaning the timing and circumstances of the conviction matter.

📌 One date to know: September 17, 2026.

The decision also addressed applications for a § 212(h) waiver, adjustment of status, and CAT protection.

The bigger takeaway? A criminal case doesn’t always end in criminal court. For noncitizens, a plea or conviction can have significant consequences for immigration status and future options.

This is exactly why the intersection between criminal defense and immigration law matters.

He fixed the issue with his license the very next day—but the ticket didn’t just disappear. 👀🚗

My client came to me after receiving a civil traffic ticket for unknowingly driving while his license was suspended. He had already gotten his license reinstated, but he wasn’t sure what to do about the pending ticket—and he didn’t want to go to court.

So I handled it. ⚖️

I contacted the officer, explained that my client had promptly corrected the issue, and the officer agreed to dismissal. I appeared in court on my client’s behalf, and ultimately, the ticket was dismissed. ✅

Sometimes hiring a lawyer is simply about being able to say: “Can you handle this for me?”

My client came to me with a warrant after failing to complete PTI on a Driving Without a Valid License case.

We got the warrant set aside. Then, even though there was already an offer on the table, I reviewed the discovery—and something was missing. 👀

What was the lawful basis for the stop?

I kept pressing the issue, and ultimately, the officer could not remember why my client had been stopped.

The case was dismissed. ⚖️

A plea offer being on the table doesn’t mean the defense stops asking questions. Sometimes what’s missing from the evidence matters just as much as what’s there.
