🚨 Weekly Online Safety Tip #2 🚨

Children don’t always tell us when something is wrong online. Sometimes the signs show up in their behavior first.

Pay attention to sudden changes like increased secrecy with devices, anxiety after being online, deleting messages, withdrawing from family, or receiving gifts and special attention from someone they don’t know.

These signs don’t automatically mean a child is being groomed, but they are opportunities to start a conversation.

The earlier we recognize the warning signs, the sooner we can help.

Take a guess before you watch.

This week’s Labels We Left Behind explores three words that were once official labels, but over time society recognized the harm they caused and chose better language instead.

It makes you wonder…

What labels are we still using today that future generations may leave behind?

🎲 CHALLENGE WEDNESDAY 🎲

This week’s challenge is simple:

🍦 Go get ice cream with your child.

That’s it.

No lectures.
No agenda.
No distractions.

Just spend a little time together.

Sometimes the strongest prevention tool isn’t a program, a policy, or a presentation.

Sometimes it’s simply helping a child feel seen, heard, and connected.

✅ Complete the challenge and comment DONE below when you’ve finished!

Bonus points if you share a photo of your ice cream adventure. 🍨

🚫 MYTH: Kids who run away are just rebellious.

✅ REALITY: Some youth may be acting out. Others may be fleeing abuse, neglect, family conflict, mental health struggles, grooming, or exploitation.

But regardless of why a child leaves, once they are out that door, they become vulnerable.

Research consistently shows that the risk of victimization, exploitation, trafficking, violence, substance abuse, and other dangers increases the longer a child remains missing.

The question shouldn’t be, “Why did they leave?”

The question should be, “How quickly can we get them home safely?”

🚨 Three arrests. Three reminders.

This week, three Beaufort County men were charged in cases involving child sexual abuse material.

These cases are a reminder that the dangers facing children are often much closer than people realize.

When we talk about protecting children, it’s not just about strangers in vans or dramatic kidnappings. It’s about online spaces, digital exploitation, grooming, and the demand that fuels the abuse of children.

Every image represents a real child.

Every file represents a victim.

Every investigation represents a child who deserved better.

Protecting children requires awareness, education, prevention, and a community willing to have difficult conversations.

At Break the Label, we believe every child deserves to be seen, protected, and valued—not reduced to a label or forgotten when the headlines fade.

❤️ Keep talking to your children.
❤️ Stay involved in their online world.
❤️ Report suspicious activity.
❤️ Be the safe adult they can come to.

Because protecting children is everyone’s responsibility.

Three Beaufort area men were arrested in early June and are facing child sexual abuse material charges.

Ask your child:

🗣️ “What is one thing adults worry about too much?”

Kids often see the world differently than we do—and sometimes their answers are surprisingly wise (and hilarious!).
