Gender Affirmation Project at Texas Law

We still have space for our clinic this Saturday! So if you're interested in changing your name and/or gender marker, or you know someone who is, fill out our intake application at the link on the poster!

You do NOT need to be in Austin for this clinic as it will be conducted over Zoom!

This clinic will assist individuals who are in the first steps of changing their name/gender markers. Law student volunteers will assist with drafting the petition, court order, and any other documents you might need to file with the court, like a fee waiver. Then, a volunteer attorney will review the drafts, and answer all of your questions! You will receive the drafted documents later in the week via email with instructions on how to efile and update your actual documents once your petition is approved and court order is signed.

Howdy!🤠 If you’re new around these here parts, allow us to reintroduce ourselves!

WHO: We are UT Austin Law School’s Gender Affirmation Project (GAP). GAP is a student-run initiative supported by the Mithoff Pro Bono Program

WHAT: GAP provides FREE and 💯 quality services within the Texas legal system to trans🏳️‍⚧️& non-binary⚧ folks who want to change their name and/or gender marker on basic forms of identification 🌈

WHERE: Due to Covid concerns, our clinics are currently held over Zoom 💻

WHEN: We try to offer at least one clinic per month! Make sure you’ve turned on your social media notifications! 🚨

HOW: Together 💞

Thank you to all of our wonderful applicants, student volunteers, and supervising attorneys! This year, even though we were completely virtual, we managed to hold 9 name and gender marker clinics and assisted almost 200 people in drafting petitions and orders!
