March health focus: National Doctors' Day – March 30.

National Doctors' Day traces back to 1933, when a small community in Winder, Georgia, first set aside a day to honor physicians, later recognized nationally by Congress and the President. Each year on March 30, people across the United States pause to acknowledge physicians' role in diagnosing, treating, and preventing illness, and in advancing the science and practice of medicine.

On National Doctors' Day, people across the United States express appreciation for physicians' work in diagnosing, treating, and preventing illness.

March health focus: Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease of the central nervous system that disrupts communication between the brain and the body, and it can look very different from person to person. Nearly 1 million people in the United States are living with MS, and many first notice symptoms such as blurred vision, balance problems, or weakness between ages 20 and 40.

This month is a reminder to listen when people describe "invisible" symptoms, to share reliable information, and to support those living with MS and their caregivers.

March health focus: National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in the United States, and incidence is rising among younger adults. About 1 in 23 men and 1 in 26 women will develop colorectal cancer during their lifetime, and many cases can be prevented or found early through screening. Most people at average risk are now advised to begin screening at age 45, with earlier or more frequent testing for those at higher risk.

This month is an opportunity to share trustworthy information and to encourage conversations with clinicians about individual risk and screening choices. Learn more about colorectal cancer, symptoms, and screening from the American Cancer Society: https://www.cancer.org/cancer/types/colon-rectal-cancer.html

In 1964, the federal government appointed February as American Heart Month, a time when national organizations focus on heart health and share resources to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, and many people live with risk factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or a history of smoking without realizing their overall risk. Throughout the month, campaigns highlight simple ways to support heart health, the importance of recognizing heart attack and stroke warning signs, and the role of quick bystander CPR in improving survival when cardiac arrest occurs.
