Kudos to the Department of Education for standing up for special needs students!!!

Students with special needs have not been receiving their required services from SCCPSS and the district cannot use the pandemic as an excuse.

As an alumna of Harvard Law School, I get the Harvard Magazine. This month's cover says, "Life After the Crisis," and it got me thinking about education after COVID-19. I know so many parents are struggling right now to support their special needs students at home. Everyone is behind, but special needs students are exponentially impacted by the lack of support at this time.

If school starts virtually in the fall, don't be afraid to ask for virtual support. Ask for compensatory services when we go back to our brick-and-mortar schools. Your child may need updated evaluations to check on progress and deficits. We're all in this together - even students and teachers!
