🥳 Short Story Winners! 🥳

I'm proud to announce the winners of Carlan Law's 2026 Spring Short Story Competition! We had a difficult time choosing the winners this year - everyone did so well. Cherokee High School has some very talented writers thanks to the tireless efforts of their teacher, Justin Jones!

Please take a moment to celebrate the winning authors.

Back in 2020, we started this scholarship because we wanted to celebrate young authors in a meaningful way. Each year, the writing gets better and better. We've seen writers grow over multiple competitions, and more importantly, we've seen them support one another in honing their stories with workshops and peer review. The writing community at CHS is strong.

I could not be more proud of the hard work they've put in. This is the most rewarding aspect of my job. Congratulations to everyone who participated and to the winners!

We are proud to announce the winners in this Spring's Short Story Competition for Cherokee High Students! This year, the theme was "Revival and Renewal."

Those that placed won a share of $1,000 in prize money!

🎃🎃WINNERS!🎃🎃

I am proud to announce the winners of the 4th Annual Horror Short Story Competition at Cherokee High School Canton, GA!

This year we saw the highest quality submissions in the history of the competition. It was so difficult for our judges to choose the winners, but let's remember that every single person who attempts art is a winner! It takes a lot to put yourself out there, and these kids brought some spooky, scary, and downright horrific stories to the table!

A huge thank you to Mr. Justin Jones and his incredible creative writing program at CHS. He's encouraging these children toward something very special! We wouldn't have success without his assistance.

As always, I want to thank my other judges: Cantrece Carlan and Carmen Tanner Slaughter for their patience and insight into each submission!

I'm looking forward to delivering checks to these talented authors on Friday of this week. Please take a moment and celebrate their achievements with me.

It is that time of year again! The Fourth Annual Horror Short Story Competition for Cherokee High School students. We are expanding the format this year and offering more awards than ever before!

Student works are judged by me and my horror story loving friends. Scare us and get cash! It is as easy as that!

Deadline is Friday the 13th (of course)!

💯 Spring Short Story Competition Winners! 💯

Last week it was my pleasure to present our incredible student writers with their letters of recognition and checks! This was the first year we branched out into different genres- and boy did they deliver! Some beautifully written, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes hilarious, stories reflecting their hopes, fears, and interests.

Major thanks to Cantrece Carlan and Carmen Tanner Slaughter for once again giving their time to judge the submissions. And a huge thank you to teacher Justin Jones at CHS for guiding these young writers to present their best work!

I am already looking forward to the Fall Horror Story competition!

🏅NEW WRITING CONTEST🏅

For the last three years, Carlan Law held a Horror Short Story contest around Halloween. After talking with our incredible young writers and their creative writing teacher, I am proud to announce we are holding a new Spring Fiction Short Story Competition!

This is open to any Cherokee High School student and cash awards will be given in multiple genres.

😱SCARY STORY COMPETITION!😱

It is that time of year again! Carlan Law is hosting its Third Annual Horror Short Story Competition. Do you know a CHS student who needs to get their own money for those new shoes? I'm giving away $1,000 in prizes to young authors who can scare me and my friends.

Duty of Care, Learned Hand, B=PL, tug boats, coin-operated scales, fireworks, microbial leg infections, distributive justice, and getting an STD in Ohio.

The law is a beautiful patchwork of the bizarre. 😂
