As a criminal defense attorney, few moments compare to hearing the favorable two-word verdict announced by the jury foreperson—an outcome that reflects countless hours of preparation, strategy and dedication.
Last week, I was notified that one of my cases had been called for trial. In the months leading up to it, I devoted substantial time to preparation, looking forward to the opportunity to present my client’s story. When we appeared in court, both my client and I were fully prepared to proceed.
Before jury selection began, however, the State informed the Court of its intent to "nol pros" the case. While a favorable verdict is always rewarding, a dismissal prior to trial can be even more satisfying—sparing a client the uncertainty, stress, and emotional toll of the trial process.
This outcome serves as a powerful reminder that diligent preparation matters. This result would not have occurred otherwise. I am grateful for the trust my client placed in me and proud to have been able to advocate effectively on their behalf.
