Did you know?
Alden wasn’t always called Alden! The area began as a lumber camp in the 1850s and was later known as Spencer Creek, named after John Spencer, one of the early lumber camp managers.
As the community grew, the railroad became a big part of its future. William Alden Smith helped influence the railroad route through Spencer Creek, and in 1891, grateful residents renamed the town Alden in his honor.
And just like that, Spencer Creek became the Alden we know today!
