Today, we had an amazing visit from Adapt Ability Autism Services, who brought 12 incredible children to Start with Art for a morning of creativity, exploration, and self-expression.
The children enjoyed a variety of hands-on activities, including air-dry clay, magnetic building blocks, drawing, and exploring different types of music. One of the most rewarding aspects of working with children on the autism spectrum is recognizing and celebrating the wide range of interests, strengths, and sensory preferences each child brings. No two children are the same, and every child deserves the opportunity to engage in ways that feel comfortable and meaningful to them.
At Start with Art, we’ve intentionally created a flexible and welcoming environment where children can choose activities that match their interests and sensory needs. Research shows that creative activities such as art, music, and hands-on building can support communication, problem-solving, fine motor development, emotional regulation, and self-confidence. For many autistic children, having access to different creative outlets can also reduce anxiety and provide a safe way to express thoughts and feelings.
It was wonderful to see each child engaging in their own unique way, whether they were sculpting with clay, building imaginative structures, drawing, listening to music, or simply exploring the space at their own pace. Moments like these remind us that creativity has no single path and that every child thrives when given the freedom to learn, play, and create in a way that works best for them.
A huge thank you to Adaptability Autism Services for spending the day with us. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for more creative adventures soon!
