The D&W Underground:

*1927: Built as a Buick dealership.
* Changed hands multiple times, serving as a car showroom, a tire company (D&W Tire Company), a drive-through gas station, and an appliance and furniture store (D&W Furniture and Appliances). *1940s: A Coca-Cola sign was installed facing the nearby railroad tracks to advertise to GIs arriving by train on their way to Camp Barkeley.
*2020: Found and purchased at the start of the pandemic by current owners Robert and Holly Hoemke.

The original 1927 floor, glass ceiling, structural elements, and Art Deco stenciling were meticulously restored.Historic Signage: Features a replica milk-glass Buick sign and a collection of over 100 vintage neon signs collected by Hoemke over 30 years, including pieces from West Texas Utilities and local Abilene history

"Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects... They mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer." — Gary Kowalski, The Souls of Animals
