April is Black Women’s History Month. And the 26 Black Women Storytelling Series on the Shades of Strong Podcast is doing exactly what this month was made for: making sure our stories are told in our own words.

I am Story 16.

Some experiences change the way you see everything. My leadership philosophy. My standards as a founder. The way I run every organization I build.
One of those experiences happened on a work trip.

What I survived that day was one thing. My employer’s response afterward was something else entirely.
That moment is woven into the DNA of every organization I have built since.

There are moments that both humble you… and stretch you at the same time.

I am honored to share my induction into the
Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers and Laity at Morehouse College
as part of the 41st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. College of Ministers and Laity.

The Board of Preachers and Laity at Morehouse College recognizes leaders whose work advances faith, justice, and community impact, both inside and outside traditional ministry. As a laity inductee, this honor reflects purpose-driven leadership in action.

My journey has never been confined to one lane.
Law. Media. Philanthropy. Storytelling.

But the throughline has always been the same…
a commitment to serve, to build, and to create impact that extends beyond the moment.

To be connected to a legacy rooted in Dr. King’s vision of faith in action is something I hold with deep responsibility.

Grateful for the journey.
Grounded in purpose.
And open to what this moment is calling me toward next.

Some days you have to push past the emotions and just do it. Do it afraid if you have to, but just do it.

Singapore, you still feel like home.

Almost 4 years of life happened here. The kids, the memories, the rhythm of a place that just made sense. Since moving back to the U.S., I hadn’t returned until now, and bringing the kids back for spring break felt like slipping into something familiar.

This trip was about celebrating my son’s 16th birthday but you won’t see many pictures of us together because he was always gone visiting his friends, spending time at his former school, seeing teachers and basically having a full life. Singapore is so safe we could just let him go an not really worry about anything. It was refreshing to be back.

For me, I made this trip about rest. Skincare hauls. Beauty treatments. Breathing in a city where safety is a given, not a luxury. I missed that feeling more than I realized.

But every season has its purpose. I loved my time here. I carry it with me. And I’m looking forward to going home, too.
All seasons come and go for a reason.

Seven years ago, SHEIN partnered with us at Dress for Success Greater London. Nearly three years ago, I brought a bigger idea to the table: what if we expanded this across the global network?

Today, affiliates in Singapore, Chattanooga, Indianapolis, Milan, Rome and others are directly benefiting from that conversation. Watching this grow from a single partnership into a multi-continent collaboration has been one of the most rewarding parts of this work.

Too big. Too small.

Funny how people always have something to say about a body
they’re not living in.

But here’s my truth:

✨ My body is not a group project.
✨ My wellness is not up for debate.
✨ My confidence doesn’t need permission.

I’ve walked runways.
I’ve graced magazine covers.
I’ve rebuilt myself — mind, body, and purpose.

So if you’re evolving, glowing, and choosing YOU…

Because I’m not “too” anything.
