Since our win in the Jessup last week, mooters have gone on to secure more accolades. In the Vis East in Hong Kong, the team comprising Evangeline Han, Adele Ling, Samantha Loh, Jonathan Teo, and Aishwarya Salkade emerged victorious in a field of more than 160 teams to win the school's third world championship in this competition. The team, coached by Jun Hong Tan, Jayakumar Suryanarayanan, Soh Kian Peng, and Vanessa Ng, also won prizes for Best Memorial and Best Oralist (Jonathan).
In Lausanne, our Sports Law Arbitration Moot team comprising Lai Chee Yuen and Janie Tan made SMU's debut in this competition -- and won; our team comprising James Liu and Rachel Tay also reached the quarter-final. The teams were coached by Daniel Ho and Audrey Loo. Then in Gujarat, our Lachs Space Moot team comprising Natasha Lim, Lachlan Neo 梁凯泽, and Daniel Sum successfully defended our Asian title, with Natasha being named Best Oralist of the tournament. The team, which will be heading to Sydney later in the year for the world rounds, was coached by Chong Kai Sheng, Neo Yu Fan (梁宇凡), Amar Pandey, and Janae Kwan (关睿恩).
Finally, both our teams excelled in Florida in the international rounds of the Stetson Environmental Law Moot. The team comprising Lee Graeme, Owen Phua, and Megan Yeoh reached the semi-final, while the team comprising Tammie Ong, Trixie Wee, and Wu Ruoyan reached the quarter-final; Graeme was also named Best Oralist of the tournament. The teams were coached by Ruth Tan, Ashley Chin, Tan Jia Le, and Shruthi Harini Janardhanan.
In this moots season, our mooters have reached 7 world championship finals (winning 5) and 3 regional championship finals (winning 2) thus far. SMU students have the opportunity to participate in over 30 international moot competitions every year thanks to the Ian R Taylor Memorial Fund, Providence Law Asia LLC, and the International Moots Alumni Group. The students also receive unparalleled mentorship and coaching from a close community of more than 500 moot alumni.
