Awesome
that a fish farm is housed inside one of the industrial buildings in Tuas?
Located at The Westcom, Blue Ocean Aquaculture Technology Pte Ltd (BOAT) has developed a factory-based indoor farming system. The farm uses the Nano Oxygen Technology, where oxygen is delivered to the tanks via special nano bubble generators. The air bubbles shrink and burst in the water, providing an oxygen-rich environment for the fishes to grow.
Mr Ng Yiak Say, Managing Director of BOAT, spent 5 years experimenting before he developed this highly-calibrated farming system. Equipped with an advanced automated system, the farm primarily produces Jade Perch, and only requires 1 person to operate. It can produce 18 tonnes of fish a year! The farm also uses 18 times less space when compared to conventional aquaculture farming.
Such innovations can help to create climate-resilient fish farms, which may prove critical in enhancing Singapore’s food security, as we face the growing challenges from climate change. Do support our local farmers by purchasing local produce!
