The Peshawar High Court (PHC) sentenced lawyer Asadullah Advocate to six months in prison and imposed a Rs100,000 fine for making inappropriate and derogatory remarks against a female judge on social media.

The court ruled that his conduct amounted to contempt of court under Section 3 of the Contempt of Court Ordinance, 2004. The case arose after offensive language targeting a female civil judge in Swat was circulated online.

The PHC emphasized that such behavior undermines the judiciary, and a detailed judgment is expected to follow.

What’s there to celebrate when your fellow citizens are sleeping under the open sky?

This 14th August, while the streets light up with fireworks, nearly 55000 people in Bajaor have been displaced by ongoing military operations & many for the second time in their lives. In Pakistan around 45 % of the population lives below the poverty line, with 16.5% in extreme poverty, and one-third of our children have never see the inside of a School. Can we call ourselves free when so many are struggling to survive?

As a lawyer and more importantly, as a fellow human being I’m heartbroken by the tragic and senseless murder of 17-year-old Sana Yousaf in Islamabad on June 2nd.

The swift action by Islamabad Police, leading to the arrest of the suspect within 24 hours, is commendable. However, this incident raises critical questions about the effectiveness of our legal system in protecting women from such violence. The prevalence of “honour” killings and the mindset of our society often justifies such acts, this demands urgent legal and cultural reforms.

In the Child Protection Court of Peshawar, we represented two young victims, aged 8/9 and 10/11, who were subject to unspeakable abuse at the hands of a Maulvi at a local mosque. The gravity of this crime, especially when committed by someone in such a position, is beyond words.

After hearing both the complainant’s and defendant’s sides, the honorable court took a significant step by rejecting the bail application of the accused. This decision sends a clear message that such heinous acts, particularly those committed against children, will not be tolerated and should be condemned.

I am proud to have stood alongside my colleagues, Sardar Ali and Gul Hassan, as part of the Fayaz Law Chambers team, in ensuring that justice is pursued. We remain committed to fighting for the rights of the victims and ensuring that the perpetrator faces the full extent of the law.
