Is this legal? How do you protect your cash?

Courier riders cannot let you open the box before paying due to company policies.

The Shield: Pay the rider, but record a continuous video while opening the parcel.

If the product is fake, that video is your bulletproof legal evidence to stop the payment and get a refund.

Most online buyers in Pakistan get cheated because they open their COD parcels without proof. If a courier rider tells you that you cannot open the box before paying, don't argue with him—he is just following company rules. Do this instead to secure your money:

The Video Proof (Most Important Step): Hand over the cash, but before you touch the tape, start video recording from your phone. Capture the tracking slip clearly, and record the entire unboxing without pausing the video.

Stop the Money Transfer: If the parcel contains a fake product or a stone, immediately call the courier company's official helpline (like TCS, Leopard, Trax, or Post Office). Provide your tracking number and tell them you have video proof of fraud. They can hold the cash transfer to the fraud seller.

Legal Action: Take that video proof and file a case in your city’s District Consumer Court or file a fraud complaint at complaint.nccia.gov.pk or call the helpline at 1799.

We all love a good laugh with friends, but online pranks can cross the line into a serious crime faster than you think.

❌ The Myth: "It's just a fake account and a random text. No one will ever know it was me."

⚠️ The Problem: You edited a friend’s photo to make fun of them, created a fake profile of a girl/boy, or sent an angry, threatening message from an unknown number. The other person gets upset, files a complaint, and suddenly the cyber police trace the internet data directly back to your smartphone.

🔍 How to Handle: Understand that making fake profiles, altering someone's photos without asking, or teasing someone online are major offenses under Pakistan's cyber laws. The authorities (NCCIA) can easily track your mobile's unique connection, even if you delete the chat or the account.

✅ The Simple Solution: Keep your digital space clean. Delete any fake accounts you made for fun. Never share or forward anyone's private photos. If someone is bothering you online, don't fight back—just block them and report them directly to the cybercrime authorities.

For e-commerce merchants in Pakistan, Cash on Delivery (COD) is a revenue driver, but unsecured COD is a financial death trap. Malicious competitors or serial scammers routinely exploit the lack of upfront payment by placing bulk, fraudulent orders using burner phone numbers and invalid addresses.

What Can Happen (The Legal & Business Consequence)

When these packages ship, they inevitably result in a Return to Origin (RTO). You do not just lose the sale; you are forced to pay double courier fees (forwarding and return shipping) plus warehouse handling costs. A coordinated campaign of 200 fake COD orders can easily drain 100,000 PKR to 300,000 PKR in pure logistics losses within a single week, actively killing your cash flow. Legally, under Pakistani electronic commerce frameworks, fabricating data to inflict financial loss constitutes a form of digital spoofing and identity fraud.

The Solution (How to Protect Yourself)

You must move away from blind COD fulfillment to a multi-tiered verification framework.

Implement Mandatory OTP Verification:

Integrate an automated SMS/WhatsApp verification gateway at checkout. No COD order should enter your processing queue until the customer enters a one-time password (OTP) sent to their active mobile number.

Deploy Risk Profiling: Use address-validation tools to flag repeat-offender numbers or highly vague addresses before shipping.

Report Systemic Attacks: If you identify a coordinated campaign targeting your store, document the IP addresses, phone numbers, and call logs. File an official complaint with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) under the relevant sections governing data spoofing and electronic fraud to initiate an investigation into the source of the malicious orders.

Ordered something online from a page and received a brick instead, or nothing at all? Don't just leave a bad review and walk away. Online shopping fraud is a serious criminal offense under Pakistan's cyber laws.

The fastest way to handle this is to file an official complaint with the NCCIA Cybercrime wing. When you provide them with the scammer's bank account details, jazzcash, or easypaisa wallet number along with proof of payment, they have the power to freeze those accounts and track down the culprits.

Never delete your chat history or payment receipts, as this is your primary legal evidence. The law protects consumers, but you have to take action to enforce your rights.
