FBR's new tax filing changes (S.R.O. 1212(I)/2025) are creating a huge problem for non-resident Pakistanis! The new system requires an FBR-generated PIN sent only to a Pakistani registered mobile number. This is an impossible hurdle for non-residents who don't use Pakistani numbers abroad, as FBR has no mechanism for foreign numbers.

This oversight effectively blocks them from filing returns, despite intentions to comply. The changes also include mandatory "Valuation Data" in wealth statements, requiring current market values for assets, which could flag "High Risk Profiles" for those with low declared incomes. An urgent call is being made for FBR to introduce alternative verification for non-residents to prevent unfair exclusion.

FBR officials clarified that the Finance Act 2025 doesn't directly tax cash sales over Rs 2 lakh. Instead, it disallows 50% of expense deductions for single invoices exceeding Rs 2 lakh paid in cash or non-digital channels. This aims to promote digital transactions and better economic documentation.
