A landmark ruling by the Islamabad High Court.

For the first time in history, the Court held that a wife’s contributions—both financial and non-financial—entitle her to an equitable, even equal, share in property acquired during marriage.

By recognizing unpaid domestic labour, the judgment moves towards a more just understanding of marriage as a partnership, and sets an important precedent for women’s economic rights in Pakistan.

This historic ruling strengthens women’s economic security and ensures that their work—at home or beyond—is valued and protected.

Two long years after the High Court directed, the Punjab Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Ordinance has finally been passed — declaring 18 as the legal age of marriage in Punjab, aiming to hold parents, registrars, and facilitators accountable for underage marriages.

On paper, it promises criminal action but will it truly safeguard girls across Punjab or remain just another law that exists only in files?

The real test is implementation.

حال ہی میں کے-الیکٹرک کی ایک سابق خاتون ملازمہ نے کمپنی کے سی ای او کے خلاف "تحفظِ خواتین برائے انسدادِ ہراسانی برِمحلِ کار ایکٹ 2010" کے تحت شکایت درج کرائی۔

اگر آپ کو کام کی جگہ پر ہراسانی کا سامنا ہو تو اپنی تنظیم کی انکوائری کمیٹی میں تحریری شکایت جمع کروائیں۔

اگر کوئی کارروائی نہ ہو یا کمیٹی موجود نہ ہو، تو آپ براہِ راست وفاقی یا صوبائی محتسب کے دفتر سے رجوع کر سکتے ہیں۔

ایک تاریخی فیصلے میں، پاکستان کی سپریم کورٹ نے قرار دیا کہ عورت کا حقِ نفقہ نکاح کے ساتھ ہی شروع ہو جاتا ہے، چاہے رخصتی یا ازدواجی تعلق قائم ہوا ہو یا نہیں۔ اس فیصلے نے نکاح کو برابری کا معاہدہ قرار دیا ہے، نہ کہ محکومیت کا۔ اپنے نکاح میں نفقے کے حق کے بارے میں مزید جاننے کے لیے دیکھیں۔
