A petition has been duly filed before the Hon’ble High Court in respect of the ongoing matter pertaining to Gul Plaza, seeking judicial intervention and redressal against the issues arising therefrom, which remain unresolved and continue to adversely affect the public at large.

In a landmark judgment (Khalid Pervez vs Samina) delivered on December 6, 2023, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ruled that a husband is legally bound to pay the dower (mahr) to his wife whenever she demands it, regardless of whether the payment timeline is specified in the marriage contract (nikah nama). Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa emphasized that Islamic law (Shariah) grants this right to women at the time of marriage, and the law of the land upholds this entitlement.

The case involved a woman who had to endure a prolonged legal battle spanning six years to claim her rightful dower. The Court criticized the lower courts for not penalizing the husband for filing unnecessary appeals, which delayed the resolution of the case. The Supreme Court dismissed the husband's appeal, imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 for the legal costs, and ordered him to pay the dower to his wife.

This judgment reinforces the legal protection of women's rights in marriage and underscores the importance of timely and fair resolution of such matters.

Barrister Hasan Khan, Managing Director of Khan & Shaikh Law Associates, has filed a petition in the High Court of Sindh addresing all government authorities, calling attention to the recklessness of dumpers and water tankers that are endangering the lives of the public. The petition highlights the dangerous practices of these vehicles on the roads, including excessive speeding, poor maintenance, and lack of proper safety measures causing multiple deaths.

In a positive outcome following the petition, the Commissioner of Karachi has issued a notification to put ban on dumpers and water tankers from operating on the roads during the daytime.

Furthermore the Chief Minister of Sindh has replaced the DIG of Traffic Police, signaling a shift towards stricter enforcement of traffic regulations in the region. The Sindh government has directed the authorities to ensure the safety of road users by conducting comprehensive fitness checks of vehicles, including dumpers, water tankers, and other heavy vehicles. The directive also mandates a thorough verification of drivers' licenses to ensure compliance with road safety standards as per the recent notification.
